A DELICATE BALANCE: Living Successfully With Chronic Illness

One day in mid-1996, I received an email from a writer who wanted to know if I would be interested in being interviewed for a book she was writing. She explained her idea to me. We emailed back and forth and as her idea for her book percolated in my mind, I decided that this was an opportunity to share with others and one I couldn't pass up.

Susan WellsThis book was not going to focus on any one disease. Instead it would focus on the commonalities those of us living with chronic illness share. Many of us work, marry, have children and "look so good" while doing it. All of us, whether it is fibromyalgia, interstitial cystitis, Sjogren's syndrome, multiple sclerosis, lupus or chronic fatigue syndrome, at one time or another wonder if it is just all in our heads. And that is how Susan Milstrey Wells' book begins.

A Delicate Balance begins where we all begin our journey ... looking for an answer to our symptoms which seem, at first, to have no medical reason for being. Susan shares her frustrations and the frustrations of 21 others as they begin their search for a diagnosis. Susan guides the reader on the journey through diagnosis, finding a physician, seeking treatment, and learning to accept and live with our chronic illness.

A Delicate Balance

I consider myself fortunate to have been able to read an advance copy of Susan Milstrey Wells' book, "A Delicate Balance: Living Successfully With Chronic Illness." I wish this book had been available when I was first diagnosed. It is the perfect addition to anyone's bookshelf whether they have a chronic illness or know and love someone who does.
